INS Tamal
▪ The missile-carrying warship ‘INS Tamal’, manufactured in Russia for the Indian Navy, was
commissioned to the country from Kaliningrad, a coastal city in Russia.
▪ This 125-meter-long, 3,900-ton warship was built using the best practices of warship
construction with Indian and Russian advanced technologies.
▪ 26 percent of the technology, capabilities, and equipment in this ship, including the ability to carry the long-range ‘BrahMos’ missile capable of targeting both sea and land targets, have been
upgraded in India.
▪ This is the 8th ‘Krivak’ class warship to join the Indian Navy from Russia in the last 20 years.
▪ 2 warships are being manufactured at the Goa Shipyard in India with Russian technical
assistance.
▪ Under this project, the Indian Navy will have 10 ships operational in 4 different categories including ‘Tushil’, ‘Talwar’, and ‘Teg’ with similar capabilities and equipment, weapons, and sensor systems with common characteristics.
INS Udayagiri
▪ The second ship ‘Udayagiri’ of the ‘Nilgiri’ class (P17A) warship was handed over to the Navy.
▪ The P17A warships equipped with advanced weapons and sensor technology are 4.54 percent
larger compared to the previous P17 warships.
▪ Moreover, they are capable of operating in deep seas to counter threats to India’s maritime
interests.
▪ It was announced that a total of 7 P17A warships will be manufactured at Mumbai’s ‘Mazagon’
and Kolkata’s ‘Garden Reach’ shipbuilding companies.
Shakti exercise
▪ The eighth edition of the Indo-French Army exercise, ‘Shakti 2025’, concluded in France
▪ The exercise involved more than 500 legionnaires and military personnel from various units of the French Army, the Foreign Legion, the French Air and Space Force, and the French Navy.
▪ The Indian contingent of 90 personnel comprised a battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, besides personnel from other services.
