Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme
▪ The government has permitted the inclusion of mental health asylum residents under the Chief Minister’s Insurance Scheme without any documents including Aadhaar and identity proof.
About Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme
▪ Aim: To provide life-saving medical treatments free of charge to poor and low-income people in government and private hospitals, the Chief Minister Kalaignar Insurance Scheme for life-saving advanced treatments was started by the Tamil Nadu Government on 23.07.2009.
▪ The Union Government’s Prime Minister’s Public Health Scheme has been implemented in integration with the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme since 23.09.2018.
▪ Currently, this scheme is being implemented through United India Insurance Company.
▪ About 1.37 crore families (from January 2022) are benefiting from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme.
▪ 800 government and 900 private hospitals have been approved for treatment.
▪ This scheme provides for 1090 treatment methods including treatment methods for infants, 8
continuous treatment procedures, and 52 examination methods.
▪ This scheme is designed to benefit all ages from infants to elderly.
▪ Benefits: Under this scheme, a family can receive treatment free of charge up to Rs.5,00,000/- per year in approved hospitals
