Assam govt launches new medicine delivery scheme called ‘Dhanwantari’

  • The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is now rampant across the country & many people are now in dire straits without getting the required medicine in their area during the lockdown.
  • In view of this, the Assamstate government’s health department has launched a special scheme called ‘Dhanwantari’, under which locally unavailable medicines will be delivered to patients at home. This medicine is free up to 200 rupees.

Dhanwantari: How it works?

  • If the required medicine is not available at a distance of 10 km from the house, the government will provide the medicine at home. This facility can be availed by calling 104.
  • If this medicine is available within the district, the health department will supply the medicine within 24 hours. Similarly, 48 hours will be required for delivery from other places i.e. from the Regional Center and one week will be required for delivery from outside the State.
  • A total of 4,000 MPWs (Multipurpose Health Workers), ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers and aspirants from across the state will be directly involved in this service.
