9th World Ayurveda Congress (WAC)
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed the valedictory function of the 9th World Ayurveda Congress which was held in Goa.
- The three National Ayush Institutes were also inaugurated at the event
- All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa
- National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM), Ghaziabad
- National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH), Delhi
- The 9th edition of the World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) and Arogya Expo witnessed the active participation of more than 400 overseas delegates representing over 50 countries, international students and various other stakeholders of Ayurveda.
- The theme of the 9th edition of WAC is “Ayurveda for One Health”.
Initiatives to promote Ayurveda
- Ministry of AYUSH led to increased enthusiasm and trust towards Ayurveda.
- WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) in Gujarat and All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi.
- Creation of Ayush Research Portal for Evidence-Based Research Data etc.
Government to turn 36,428 villages as ‘model tribal villages’
- The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs is planning to develop 36,428 villages with at least 50% tribal population and 500 STs across the country into ‘model tribal’ villages.
- The efforts were part of the existing Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub Scheme (SCA to TSS), which has now been renamed to the Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojna (PMAAGY), for implementation from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
- The project will cover as many as 4.22 crore tribal people in the country, which comprises around 40% of the total ST popula tion in India.
Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022
- The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was passed in the parliament.
Highlights of the Bill
- The Bill amends the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 to empower the central government to specify a carbon credit trading scheme.
- Designated consumers may2 be required to meet a proportion of their energy needs from non-fossil sources.
- The Energy Conservation Code for buildings will also apply to office and residential buildings with a connected load of 100 kilowatt or above.
- Energy consumption standards may be specified for vehicles and ships.
- The Bill seeks to mandate use of non-fossil sources, including Green Hydrogen, Green Ammonia, Biomass and ethanol for energy and feedstock and establish Carbon Markets.
- The Bill seeks to bring large residential buildings within the fold of the Energy Conservation regime, enhance the scope of the Energy Conservation Building Code and amend penalty provisions.
