- The survey report titled Bihar Jaati Adharit Ganana, 2022 (Bihar caste based Survey, 2022) was released by the Bihar Government recently. The report consists of the data of caste based census conducted in Bihar.
Key Findings of the Survey
- The total population of Bihar is over 13 crore.
- Population composition of Bihar (% of total population of the State)
- Other Backward Classes (OBCs) – 27.1286%
- Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs) – 36.0148%
- Scheduled Castes – 19.6518%
- Scheduled Tribes 1.6824%.
- Upper castes – 15.5224%.
- Hindus – 81.9986%
- Muslims – 17.7088%.
- Caste Composition (% of the State population)
- Yadavs – 14.26
- Kushwa – 4.27%
- Kurmis – 2.87%.
- Musahar caste – makes up 3% of the State population
- Brahmins – 3.66%.
- Kasha community (uppercaste)- 0.68%
- Other Backward Classes and the Extremely Backward Classes together constituted 63% of the State’s population — the EBCs constituted 36% and the OBCs 27.13%.
