UN Forecasts India’s Economic Growth at 6.3% in 2025
▪ The United Nations has predicted that India’s economic growth will be 6.3% in 2025.
▪ In a report on the economic conditions of world countries released last January, the UN had
initially projected India’s economic growth at 6.6%, but this has now been reduced to 6.3%.
▪ Similarly, the UN has stated that India’s economic growth in 2026 will be 6.4%.
▪ Inflation in India, which was at 49% in 2024, is expected to decrease to 4.3% in 2025.
“30 Crore People at Risk of Starvation”
▪ Geneva, May 16: According to a study report jointly released by 16 voluntary organizations
including the UN Food Security Agency, 295.3 crore people worldwide are facing the threat of
starvation.
▪ The report, titled International Food Shortage Report, states:
▪ Conflicts in 19 countries including Myanmar, Nigeria, and Congo, along with drought in regions like Ethiopia and Afghanistan, have caused food shortages.
▪ There is a risk of severe nutritional deficiency for 1.4 crore children in Sudan, Yemen, and Haiti.
