Mental health helpline receives 20k calls in two months
- The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB) reported that Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States (MANAS) toll free 24/7 number (14416) received over 20,000 calls since its launch.
- The Top five States/UTs from where maximum number of calls were received are
- Tamil Nadu – 3,631
- Maharashtra – 2,125
- Madhya Pradesh – 1,892
- Jammu and Kashmir – 1,338
- Telangana – 1,056
About Tele – MANAS
- An initiative of the Health Ministry.
- Launched on October 10 on World Mental Health Day.
- The initiative aims to open at least one Tele-MANAS cell in each State/U.T.
- National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) was appointed as the nodal center for the helpline
- IIITB has been providing technical support for the initiative.
- It is based on the Karnataka government’s e-Manas service, which was launched during the first wave of COVID-19.
