  • The day honours the work and contribution of late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the field of Statistics and Economic Planning.

About P C Mahalanobis

  • He is known as the ‘Father of Indian Statistics’.
  • Second (1956-1961) Planning Commission was also known as Mahalanobis plan.
  • The Indian Statistical Institute founded by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis on 17th December, 1931.
  • The institute gained the status of an Institution of National Importance by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1959.
  • The Headquarters of ISI – Kolkata.

Trans Harbour Link named after Vajpayee

  • Maharashtra government announced to rename the upcoming Versova-Bandra Sea Link in the financial capital Mumbai after Hindutva leader V D Savarkar and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

About Trans Bridge

  • Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL): An Engineering Marvel
  • It connects Mumbai to the mainland: It starts from Sewri in Mumbai to Chirle in Navi.
  • The 22-km-long sea link is the longest in the country and the tenth longest in the world.
