International Tiger Day – July 29

  • It is observed on July 29 every year to raise awareness about the endangered tiger species. 
  • The day was first observed in 2010 at Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia
  • In India, tigers are protected under Schedule 1 of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972
  • Project Tiger is a tiger conservation programme launched on April 1, 1973 by the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi

Awards & Honours 

Asian Chess Excellence Awards 2023 

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin conferred with Man of the Year for his invaluable involvement for the successful hosting of 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad at Mahabalipuram
  • For the outstanding performance of winning Gold medal on Board number one in the Olympiad, Grandmaster D Gukesh bagged the Player of the Year award.
