World Lion Day

World Biofuel Day
▪ World Biofuel Day is observed on August 10 every year in honor of Sir Rudolf Diesel.
▪ In 1893, he operated the first engine using peanut oil, laying the foundation for modern biofuels.

August 9 – ‘Quit India Movement’ (August Kranti Diwas) Day
▪ 83rd anniversary of the ‘Quit India Movement’ led by Mahatma Gandhi.
Historical Background
▪ In 1942, against British rule, the Quit India Movement was launched by the Father of the Nation,
Mahatma Gandhi, with the unparalleled slogan “Do or Die.”
▪ This gave a new impetus to the country’s freedom struggle.
▪ In the history of India’s freedom struggle, the Quit India Movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi against British rule is a major milestone.
▪ On August 8, 1942, the resolution for this movement was passed at the Mumbai Congress session.
Responding to Gandhi’s call, the struggle began on August 9.
▪ Under Congress leadership, countless Indians took to the streets and wrote an unforgettable chapter in history.
▪ Later, in the early hours of August 9, all major Congress leaders were arrested and imprisoned.
▪ Until May 6, 1944, Mahatma Gandhi was kept under house arrest at Aga Khan Palace. Nehru, Patel, Azad, and others were taken to Ahmedabad Fort Prison and held there until March 28, 1945. From 1921 to 1945, this was the 9th time Nehru was imprisoned, having spent a total of 9 years in jail.
▪ While imprisoned in Ahmedabad for participating in the Quit India Movement, Jawaharlal Nehru wrote the book The Discovery of India.
