World Elephant Day
▪ World Elephant Day is being celebrated in Coimbatore on 12 August, focusing on mitigation of
human-elephant conflict.
▪ Organised by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department.
▪ India has 33 elephant reserves and 150 elephant corridors.
▪ India is home to nearly 60% of the world’s wild elephant population.
