Ban on seven Meitei extremist organisations
▪ A tribunal under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) has upheld the Centre’s decision to declare seven Meitei extremist organisations as “unlawful associations” for the next five years.
About UAPA
▪ It was passed in 1967.
▪ Aim – To prevent unlawful activities of associations in India.
UAPA Tribunal is headed by a retired or sitting judge of a High Court.
