First woman Director General of Army Medical Services

  • Air Marshal Sadhana Saxena Nair was appointed as the Director General of Army Medical Services.
  • She became the first woman to hold the post.
  • She is also the second woman officer to be promoted to the rank of Air Marshal in continuous service in the Air Force.

Note

  • Padma Bandho Padhyaya was the first woman to be promoted to the rank of Air Marshal in the Air Force.

Nano DAP plant of IFFCO

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the newly built nano DAP (di-ammonimum phosphate) plant of IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited) in Kalol, Gujarat.
  • This is the second such IFFCO plant in Gujarat.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world’s first IFFCO’s nano urea plant in May, 2022.

About Nano Urea

    • It is urea in the form of a nanoparticle.
    • It is a nutrient (liquid) to provide nitrogen to plants as an alternative to the conventional urea.
    • Developed and patented by the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO).
  • IFFCO Nano Urea is the only nano fertilizer approved by the Government of India and included in the Fertilizer Control Order (FCO).

About IFFCO

  • India’s largest multi-state cooperative society that is entirely owned by Indian cooperatives.
  • It is primarily engaged in the production and distribution of fertilizers.
  • Headquarters: New Delhi, India.

“DNA and face matching” systems to be launched under Criminal Procedure Identification Act , 2022

    • The Centre is planning to launch the “DNA and face matching” systems at 1,300 police stations across India under the provisions of
  • Criminal Procedure Identification Act 
    • Prisoners Act, 1920 was passed by Parliament in April 2022. The Act replaced the 100yearold Identification of 
    • The law enables the police and the Central investigating agencies to collect, store, and analyse physical and biological samples, including retina and iris scans of arrested persons.
    • The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) was assigned the task of finalising the standard operating procedures (SOP) for police officials
    • NCRB is tasked with rolling out the Act.
  • National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS)
  • It is database of fingerprint details.
    • It is a unique 10 digit number of accused and convicts, across the country.
  • This database is also being integrated with the Criminal Procedure Identification Act, 2022.

Food labels to have QR code to help the visually disabled

  • The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) have recommended the use of quick response (QR) codes on food products for accessibility by persons with visual disabilities.
  • This would ensure access to safe food for all.
  • The FSSAI under its Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 has
    comprehensively outlined the information to be included on the labels of food products which includes:
  • Product name
  • Shelf life
  • Nutrition facts
  • Vegetarian/non  vegetarian logos
  • Ingredient lists
  • Allergen warnings
  • Other product  specific labelling requirements.

  • Statutory body established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
