National Police Equestrian Competition

  • 41st All India Police Equestrian Competition was held at the BSF Academy in Deccanpur, Madhya Pradesh.
  • Tamil Nadu Police officers who won medals and trophies in the event were felicitated by the TN CM MK Stalin.
  • 18 teams from Central Armed Forces and State Police participated in the competition.
  • In 2018, the Chennai Metropolitan Police Cavalry was formed for the first time as an Equestrian Team. 
  • It is the third time that the Tamil Nadu Police Equestrian Team is participating in the National Equestrian Competitions.
  •  Gold medal winners receive Rs 5 lakh, silver medal winners receive Rs 3 lakh and bronze medal winners receive Rs 2 lakh.

Sanitary Napkin Scheme

  • Under Nirbhaya Fund, Chennai corporation is to supply free sanitary napkins for corporation school students of classes VI-XII at a cost of Rs 4.67 crore
  • Under the initiative ‘Kanniyam’ the sanitary napkins are distributed to promote menstrual hygiene management in corporation schools.
  • Under the Nirbhaya Niti, Girl Child Safety Scheme in Chennai schools, a scheme to provide sanitary napkins to girl students from classes 6 to 12 was launched.
  • Under this scheme, sanitary napkins will be provided to 25,474 girl students studying in Chennai Corporation schools.
  • 20 sanitary napkins will be provided to the girl students every 2 months at the rate of 10 sanitary napkins per month.
  • Under the scheme, 26.59 lakh sanitary napkins will be provided to schools in Chennai every year.

  • ‘Nirbhaya Fund’ for implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety and security for women in the country.

Financing of Urban Infrastructure: Exchange of Contracts for Tamil Nadu Projects

  • Contracts for Tamil Nadu projects were exchanged in the presence of Chief Minister M K Stalin under the Funding Scheme for Development of Sustainable Urban Infrastructure.
  • The Joint Development Bank of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu are implementing the Financing Scheme for Sustainable Urban Infrastructure.
  • The objective of the project is to improve the capacity of urban local bodies to address climate resilience, drinking water supply, sewage disposal and related issues in urban infrastructure.
  • The first phase of the project is worth Rs.1969.47 crore. Both phases of the project will be completed this month.
  • The third phase of the project will be completed by June 30, 2030.

Aavin’s ice cream plant in Salem inaugurated

  • Chief Minister M. K. Stalin inaugurated a new ice cream plant at the Aavin’s Salem dairy, the third such facility of the cooperative federation.
  • The plant had been constructed at a cost of 12.26 crore using funds from the Coimbatore, Erode and Salem unions of the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation, whose popular brand is Aavin.
  • The plant has a capacity to manufacture 6,000 liters of ice cream per day and supply it to three districts.
