New Constitution Bench to hear 4 cases

  • A New Constitution Bench led by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud is scheduled to start hearing a list of four cases.
  • The first among the four cases concerns the question whether state instrumentalities can change eligibility rules or the “rules of the game” in the middle of a selection process for public employment.

About Constitution Bench

  • Under Article 145(3), “Any Case involving a substantial question of law as to the interpretation of the Constitution” must be decided by a Bench of at least five judges.
