▪ Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development Rashtriya Sarvekshen (PARAKH RS), formerly National Achievement Survey (NAS).
▪ Countrywide survey reveals deficits in student learning.
▪ It has revealed that Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu and Chandigarh are the best performing States and Union Territories in school education.
▪ PARAKH RS assessed the performance of 21,15,022 children in Grades 3, 6, and 9 from 74,229 schools across 781 districts in the country.
▪ The assessment covered language and mathematics (for Grades 3, 6, and 9), ‘the World around us’ (for Grades 3 and 6), and science and social science (for Grade 9).
▪ According to the survey, only 31% could explore and understand sets of numbers, such as whole numbers, fractions, integers, rational numbers, and real numbers, and their properties
2nd Edition of the NER District SDG Index
▪ NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) has launched the 2nd edition of the North Eastern Region (NER) District Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index for 2023-24.
▪ First edition launched in 2021.
▪ The NER District SDG Index is a composite tool designed to monitor district-level progress on selected SDG indicators.
▪ Developed collaboratively by NITI Aayog, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MoDoNER), and with technical support from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
▪ Mizoram has the highest-scoring district in the entire NER (Hnahthial at 81.43) and Arunachal Pradesh has the lowest-scoring district in the entire region (Longding at 58.71).
▪ All districts in Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura have achieved Front Runner status, with no districts falling in the Aspirant or Achiever categories
