International Solar Alliance (ISA)
▪ By end of 2025, ISA to set up 17 Centres of Excellence in different countries.
▪ Long-term plan: establish a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India, envisioned as a “Silicon Valley for solar”.

Centres of Excellence:
▪ To provide testing, lab training, start-up ecosystem.
▪ Located in IIT-like universities.
▪ GCC in India will act as a hub connecting these centres.
▪ Number could expand from 17 to 50, as several countries seek India’s support for capacitybuilding.
About International Solar Alliance (ISA)
▪ Jointly announced by India and France in 2015 at the UN Paris Climate Change Conference
(COP-21 of the UNFCCC).
▪ ISA Framework Agreement came into force in 2017.
▪ It is a treaty-based intergovernmental organization that is an action-oriented, member-driven,
collaborative platform for increased deployment of solar energy technologies.
▪ Membership: 119 Signatory members (100 ratified)
▪ It is headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana.
