Important Days Tamil Nadu State Formation Day – July 18 ▪ July 18 is observed as Tamil Nadu State Formation Day from 2023. ▪ July 18 was the day on which a resolution moved by then Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai was adopted in the State Legislative Assembly to rename the then Madras State as Tamil Nadu in 1967. Note ▪ Madras State became Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala on November 1, 1956 Martyrs Day - July 17 ▪ July 17 is observed as Martyrs Day in Tamil Nadu. ▪ The day aims to honour the contributions of Thiyagi Arya (alias) Bhashiyam, Thiyagi Sankaralinganar, Thiyagi Shenbagaraman.
