Private Septic Tank Owners Must Compensate for Deaths During Cleaning - High Court Order ▪ "For accidents occurring in private individuals' and private septic tanks, the respective owner must take responsibility. ▪ Therefore, the petitioner must provide compensation to the deceased person's family. If the municipality provides the amount on an emergency basis, they can recover it from the house owner as per the government order." Two More Ramsar Sites in Tamil Nadu ▪ World Wetlands Day is observed on February 2nd. ▪ On this occasion, the Sakkarakottai and Therathangal Bird Sanctuaries in Ramanathapuram district have been declared as new Ramsar sites. With this, Tamil Nadu now has 20 sites, the highest in India. Of these, 19 locations were previously designated as wetlands. ▪ These sites house over 400 plant and animal species. Furthermore, these sanctuaries serve as habitats for endangered bird species such as Spoonbill, Darter, and Snake Bird. ▪ As a first phase, an integrated management plan report has been prepared for 13 Ramsar sites. This report includes water management, biodiversity conservation, and enhancement of livelihood opportunities for local communities. ▪ A Ramsar site is a wetland that has been designated as being of international importance under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. The convention was established in 1971 by UNESCO and named after the city of Ramsar in Iran, where it was signed. Modern Headquarters for Tamil Nadu Scout Movement ▪ A new headquarters with modern training facilities is being established for the Tamil Nadu Scout Movement at a cost of Rs. 10 crore. ▪ Globally, this movement has 8 million members in India alone.
