“Delete caste column from appraisal forms: T.N. police panel”
▪ The Tamil Nadu Fifth Police Commission, led by Justice C.T. Selvam, recommended removing caste/community references from Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) of police personnel.
▪ This move aims to eradicate caste conflicts and promote uniformity within the police force
Key Recommendations of the T.N. Police Commission
▪ Remove Caste from Appraisals – Delete caste columns from police ACRs to prevent bias; not used for IPS officers.
▪ End Caste Inquiries – Stop asking for the caste of complainants or accused at police stations.
▪ Curb Caste Discrimination – Hold all-party meetings to remove caste names from streets and village markers
▪ Form SICs – Create Special Intelligence Cells in caste-sensitive districts to monitor caste-related tensions.
▪ Ensure Balanced Postings – Avoid over-posting police from dominant castes in sensitive areas to prevent bias.
Blue Flag beach
▪ Deputy Chief Minister inaugurated the eco-restoration infrastructure developed at Marina Beach under the Blue Flag Certification programme.
The Blue Flag initiative
▪ It is a globally recognized eco-label accorded by the Foundation for Environment Education in Denmark (FEE).
▪ The Blue Flag programme was started in France in 1985 and in areas out of Europe in 2001.
▪ Marina is the latest addition to Tamil Nadu’s list of beaches being upgraded for Blue Flag recognition, following the certification of Kovalam beach in Chengalpattu.
▪ The other Indian beaches in the blue list are Shivrajpur-Gujarat, Ghoghla-Diu, Kasarkod and
Padubidri-Karnataka, Kappad-Kerala, Rushikonda- Andhra Pradesh, Golden-Odisha, RadhanagarAndaman and Nicobar, Kovalam in Tamil Nadu and Eden in Puducherry beaches, Minicoy Thundi
Beach – Lakshadweep and Kadmat Beach- Lakshadweep.
‘Regional Investment Conclave – T.N. Rising’
▪ Context: The Tamil Nadu government and the Singapore-based Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) Group are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for a new man-made fibre plant in Thoothukudi.
▪ The Thoothukudi conclave is the first regional investment event under the ‘T.N. Rising’ initiative.
▪ More such conclaves to be held across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in Tamil Nadu to tap into districtlevel economic potential.
▪ It will support the State’s textile industry and strengthen local supply chains
