Kalaignar Classical Tamil Award
▪ Tamil Nadu Chief Minister presented the Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi Classical Tamil Award for 2025 to the eminent Tamil scholar Thayammal Aravanan.
▪ The award carries a cheque for ₹10 lakh and a citation.
▪ It was presented at a function at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai that marked the ‘Semmozhi
Day’ celebrations on the occasion of the birth anniversary of late DMK leader and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
▪ The Chief Minister also released two works published by the Central Institute of Classical Tamil
✓ Tamil Vinayadigal-Varalatru Mozhiyiyal Ayvu, authored by Rajendran Sankaravelayuthan,
✓ Sanga Ilakkiya Solvalam, authored by P.R. Subramanian.
‘Alaigal’ scheme
▪ Tamil Nadu Chief Minister launched the ‘Alaigal’ (waves) microcredit scheme for women’s selfhelp groups through the Tamil Nadu State Apex Fisheries Co-operative Federation Limited and commenced the distribution of welfare assistance worth Rs 10.67 crore to 2,290 beneficiaries.
▪ It aims to provide the micro-Loans to the fisherwomen groups for their economic upliftment.
▪ The new Tuna Fishing Harbour was also inaugurated at Thiruvottiyur, Chennai.
▪ It is India’s first exclusive Tuna fishing harbour.
Elimai Aalumai’ (Simple Governance) scheme
▪ Chief Minister launched the ‘Elimai Aalumai’ (Simple Governance) scheme to streamline and
expedite the delivery of key public services across Tamil Nadu.
▪ The scheme is to simplify the delivery of 10 services to the people, including the issuance of
sanitation certification, public building licence, registration of old age homes, working womens
hostel licence, solvency certificates and no-objection certificate for using dry land for nonagricultural purposes.
▪ This scheme was designed to ensure delivery of all the services online to everyone.
