World Band’s funding for Tamil Nadu
▪ Development loan interest rates are high (6%–7%). Stalin urged the World Bank to offer more supportive financing for socio-economic development.
▪ World Bank had provided financial support to the tune of $4.7 billion for projects that had been completed in the State, while $1 billion-worth projects were under implementation.
▪ World Bank Group Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer said the World Bank and Tamil Nadu shared a rich history of collaboration.And and Chennai was the World Bank Group’s largest centre outside the United States.
▪ Together, the two had advanced development in areas such as rural livelihood and skills building, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and Smart Cities.
▪ World Bank Country Director for India Auguste Tano Kouamé said Chennai had grown to become the second largest footprint of the World Bank around the world, serving 130 countries.
T.N. emerging as key manufacturing hub for electronics and Tamil AI
▪ Tamil Nadu is fast emerging as a key electronics manufacturing hub with major projects in mobile phones, laptops and server manufacturing and a newly approved electronics cluster.
▪ Tamil Nadu is a major manufacturing centre for the Vande Bharat trains.
Tamil AI
▪ Tamil AI is a path-breaking initiative and will make a big impact on the way Indian languages get incorporated into AI.
▪ Tamil AI aims to integrating Tamil literature and research into artificial intelligence.
▪ A. Ashwathaman, founder of the Tamil AI project, said the initiative aims to incorporate all
published Tamil books.
▪ In future it could be used for several puposes, including generating commentaries on ancient Tamil poems.
