Chief Minister Provides Rs. 2.15 Crores to Tamil Development Society
▪ Tamil Nadu Chief Minister presented a cheque for Rs. 2.15 crores to M. Rajendran, Chairman of the Tamil Development Society, to ensure the organization’s activities continue without interruption.
▪ The Tamil Development Society was established in 1946 by T.K. Avinashilingam Chettiar, who was then the Education Minister of Madras Province, with the primary objective of developing Tamil in all fields of knowledge.
▪ Subsequently, he announced the Encyclopedia Project, which was the noble goal of this organization, on Independence Day, August 15, 1947.
▪ A committee of scholars was formed under the leadership of A. Lakshmanaswamy to create the encyclopedia.
▪ Professors M. Varadarajan, R.P. Sethu Pillai, and others were members of this committee.
▪ So far, 60 books and encyclopedia CDs have been published through the Tamil Development Society.
▪ It was announced in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly last April that Rs. 2 crores would be provided as aid to help the Tamil Development Society undertake projects to integrate Tamil with Artificial Intelligence and continue its activities without interruption.
Kalaignar Kanavu Illam Scheme
▪ The Kalaignar Kanavu Illam, a flagship rural housing scheme for the poor, is set to reach a major milestone with the completion of 1 lakh houses in the coming weeks.
▪ As of now, 81,811 houses have been completed.

▪ Launched in 2024-25, the scheme envisages the construction of one lakh houses annually.
▪ The main objective of the scheme is to make Tamil Nadu hut free by the end on 2030.
▪ However, the scheme is not new and was initially launched in 2010 under the name ‘Kalaignar Veedu Vazhangum Thittam’.
▪ The construction of houses under the scheme will be integrated with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee and Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin.
