₹12-cr. Project to Develop Chola Gangam lake
▪ Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced a ₹12 crore project to develop Chola Gangam Lake (also known as Ponneri) in commemoration of Rajendra Chola I’s birth anniversary on July 23.
▪ The development activities to be undertaken by the Tourism Department.
▪ Chola Gangam Lake was originally dug by Rajendra Chola I to commemorate his northern military campaign.
▪ The Tamil Nadu government has celebrated Rajendra Chola I’s birth anniversary on Aadi Thiruvathirai every year since 2021.
▪ A Chola museum (south of the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple on the Trichy-Chidambaram highway) is also under development over 10 acres, with a budget of ₹22.10 crore.
T.N. ranks second in per capita Net State Domestic Product
▪ Tamil Nadu ranks second in India in terms of per capita Net State Domestic Product (NSDP).
▪ The data was published by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
▪ India’s per capita net national income (NNI) at constant prices for 2024–25: ₹1,14,710
▪ Tamil Nadu’s per capita NSDP for the same period: ₹1,96,309.
▪ Tamil Nadu attributes this economic achievement to the welfare programmes and efficient
governance initiated since 2021.
