  • In the inaugural event Supriya Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment, Forests and Climate Change stated that Tamil Nadu is developing its own greenhouse gas emission inventory.

Challenges discussed regarding Sustainable Energy Transformation

  • The higher peak demand usually occurs during summer, especially at night when the availability of renewable energy will be lower. So the reliance on coal based power plants will be higher at such times. So the fossil fuel based power plants would continue operating to meet the peak demand in summer.
  • According to a study, though the installed capacity of renewable energy was higher, the unit consumption thereof had not crossed 21%, as mandated by regulation, at the national and State levels.
  • According to WRI’s working paper on ‘Low Emissions Analysis Platform for Tamil Nadu’, which was released at the event, the State could cut its emissions by 25% 32% if it integrated 60% of its renewable capacity.

  • Minister for Information and Publicity M. P. Saminathan inaugurated the Tamil Nadu Day celebrations at the 41st India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

About 41st India International Trade Fair

  • Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal inaugurated the fair.
  • The fair will be held from November 15 to 27 November.
  • The theme of the trade fair for 2022 is “Vocal for Local, Local to Global”.

8th State Conference of Construction Workers’ Union of the All Indian Trade Union Congress

  • The Construction Workers’ Union of the All Indian Trade Union Congress’ 8th State Conference took place in Ranipet.
  • In order to improve the academic performance of children of construction workers studying 6th to 9th standard will receive a grant of Rs. 1,000 from the current year.
  • In case of death of construction workers in accidents, Rs. 2 lakh will be given and Rs.5 lakh in case of death of the worker at the construction site.
  • For construction workers Rs.4 lakh subsidy, Rs.400 crore has been allocated for the scheme of building houses. 103 houses have been provided in the first phase.
