5,035 children children get cochlear implants under CMCHIS’
- As many as 5,035 children have undergone cochlear implant surgeries at a cost of Rs.358.44 crore under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS).
- Golden Jubilee of upgraded Ear, Nose and Throat Department at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai.
- The Department of Otorhinolaryngology was started in 1927 under the leadership of Dr. Cherian.
- In 1972, the department was elevated to the status of a Treatment Facility and the golden jubilee is being celebrated to mark 50 years.
- In 2010, the cochlear implant program was launched by the then Chief Minister Karunanidhi. It is now linked to the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
- Various advanced treatments include all advanced tests for hearing, speech lab for computerized voice analysis, treatment center for vertigo, sleep lab, polysomnography for snoring, endoscopy test for swallowing disorders, narrow band imaging for early detection of laryngeal cancer.
Naan Mudhalvan Scheme
- MoUs were signed with 6 industrial companies to provide training to engineering and polytechnic students while studying under the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ project.
- 1,560 students will benefit from this agreement through 6 institutions namely Mando India (Sriperumbudur), VVDN Technologies (Pollachi), Sri Kannapiran Mills Limited (Coimbatore, Madurai, Perundurai), KG Group of Mills, Lakshmi Machine Works (Coimbatore), Gabriel India (Villupuram, Hosur).
About Naan Mudhalvan Scheme
- Launched on March 1, 2022.
- The scheme was launched as a skill development program for the students of Government Schools and Colleges.
- TN Government also launched the ‘Kalloori Kanavu’ programme under the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ initiative which aims to guide and counsel students who have completed Class XII.
- Naan Mudhalvan portal was launched by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on August 29, 2022 which is aimed to get over 12.5 lakh students registered on the portal by the end of the year.
Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin: Internet page on VOC launched
- Chief minister M K Stalin launched an internet page on freedom fighter V.O. Chidambaram Pillai at the Tamil digital library and released the 150th birthday souvenir magazine, on the occasion of his 86th death anniversary.
- The internet page in the Tamil digital library consists of 11 books written by him including seven editions and four translations.
- The web page also has e-books; 20 biographic books on VOC, six centenary year souvenirs, a compilation of essays written on him, five research books and six other books on VOC.
- Besides, the web page has 17 documentaries, seven handwritten copies and 38 other documents on the life of VOC.
- Tamil virtual academy is involved in turning all the books on VOC into e-books.
- In view of 150th birthday of VOC on September 3, 2021, Stalin had announced that Tamil virtual academy will take up the task of converting all the literature on VOC into e-books.
