Seaweed parks in Chennai
▪ A resolution was passed in the Chennai Corporation meeting to establish climate-resistant seaweed parks at 2 locations in Chennai.
▪ Preliminary entry permission has been granted to the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority to establish these parks at two locations: Chennai Body Elangonagar and Duraipaakkam Corporation Park Sports Ground.
Chennai Port Development
▪ Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the upgrade of Chennai Port’s passenger terminal under the Cruise Bharat Mission at a cost of ₹19.25 crores, designed to handle 3,000 passengers.
Cruise Bharat Mission:
▪ The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has undertaken various measures under the
‘Cruise Bharat Mission’ program to improve shipping traffic in India.
▪ As part of this initiative, a consultation program related to shipping traffic with Asian member countries was held yesterday in Mamallapuram, near Chennai.
Green Technology Goals:
▪ By 2030, India will become one of the world’s top 10 shipbuilding hubs, and by 2047, one of the world’s top 5 shipbuilding hubs.
▪ We are implementing green technologies in ships and ports with environmental considerations in mind.
▪ We have undertaken all measures to ensure that ships and ports will be completely equipped with green technologies by 2050
