Deputy President Election and Qualifications
▪ The Deputy President is elected by an electoral college consisting of members of both houses of Parliament.
▪ This election is conducted through proportional representation using the single transferable vote system. Voting in this election takes place through secret ballot.
Qualifications:
▪ For someone to be elected Deputy President, they must:
✓ Be an Indian citizen
✓ Have completed 35 years of age
✓ Be qualified for election to the Rajya Sabha.
Disqualifications:
▪ Any person holding any office of profit under the Indian government, state government, or local government bodies under them shall be considered disqualified.
National Anti-Doping Bill – 2025
▪ Based on instructions from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the National Anti-Doping Amendment Bill (2025) was introduced in the Lok Sabha to enhance operational independence and authority of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
▪ The bill seeks to align provisions with international best practices and the World Anti-Doping Code.
