Special Bulletin on Maternal Mortality in India 2021-2023.
▪ It was recently released by the Sample Registration System under Office of the Register General.
▪ According to the bulletin, Tamil Nadu’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), which has been on a gradual decline, fell by another three points.
▪ Tamil Nadu’s MMR dropped from 38 per 1,00,000 live births during 2020-2022 to 35 during
2021-2023.
▪ With this, Tamil Nadu now has the second lowest MMR in the country, behind Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, both at 30.
▪ India’s MMR stood at 88.
