Chief Minister’s Cup
Football Tournament:
▪ The Coimbatore team won the tournament.
▪ The Chengalpattu team won the silver medal.
▪ The Kanyakumari team won the bronze medal.
Boxing Competition:
▪ A boxing competition for the CM’s Cup was held under the Boxing Federation India (BFI).
▪ Angseetha and Arundhati won the champion title Contempt of Court
▪ According to the law, any act that undermines the authority of a court, disobeys its orders, or obstructs the administration of justice is considered contempt of court.
▪ Contempt of court is classified into two types.
Contempt of Courts Act – 1971
▪ This Act was enacted based on the recommendations of the H.N. Sanyal Committee.

Civil Contempt:
▪ As per Section 2(b) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971, civil contempt occurs when a person wilfully disobeys any judgment, decree, direction, order, writ, or other process of a court, or wilfully breaches an undertaking given to the court.
Criminal Contempt:
▪ As per Section 2(c) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971, criminal contempt occurs when a person, through any form of publication such as writing, speech, signs, or visible representations, acts in a manner that disparages the court or undermines confidence in its judgments.
Constitutional Provisions:
▪ Article 129: The Supreme Court is a “Court of Record” and has the power to punish for contempt.
▪ Article 215: The High Courts of states are also “Courts of Record” and have the power to punish for contempt.
Mandal Commission
▪ The Mandal Commission was a commission that brought a significant turning point in India’s
reservation system.
Formation of the Mandal Commission:
▪ The commission was established in 1979.
▪ It was constituted by the then Prime Minister Morarji Desai.
▪ B.P. Mandal served as the chairperson of the commission.
Purpose:
▪ To recommend reservations in jobs and educational opportunities for socially and educationally
backward classes (OBCs) in government services.
Recommendations (1980):
▪ 27% reservation should be provided for OBCs in total government jobs.
▪ This brought the total reservation to 49.5% (including SC/ST).
▪ The judgment in this case was delivered in 1992.
