Vidiyal Payanam Thittam
▪ 3.97 Crore people benefited from the free-travel Vidiyal Payanam Thittam.
▪ Started in the year 2021, the scheme was initially known as “Zero Ticket Bus Travel Scheme for Women”.
▪ Through this scheme, the state government provides free bus travel to beneficiaries women across the Tamil Nadu.
▪ The primary objective of this scheme is to offer free bus travel to women and alleviate their
financial burden.
Vidiyal Payanam Thittam to Differently-abled People Living in Hilly Areas
▪ The Vidiyal Payanam Thittam (Free travel for women and now PwD) has been expanded to
cover differently-abled persons (PwD) traveling in hilly areas.
▪ The Tamil Nadu government has issued the order for this extension.
▪ Beneficiaries: Differently-abled persons with 40% or more disability are eligible.
▪ One attendant accompanying the eligible differently-abled person is also permitted to travel free of charge.
▪ Applicable Route: Ordinary fare buses operating within a range of 35 km to 40 km in hilly
regions and connected areas.
▪ The expansion was announced by the Chief Minister on August 15 (Independence Day).
