Mullaperiyar Dam
The Mullaperiyar Dam is one of India’s most important and historically renowned dams.
It is located in the Idukki district of Kerala.
However, the water from this dam is supplied to the state of Tamil Nadu.
The dam is named “Mullaperiyar” because it is situated at the confluence of the Mullayar and Periyar rivers.
The primary purpose of the Mullaperiyar Dam is to divert water from the west-flowing Periyar River eastward to supply water to the drought-prone regions of Tamil Nadu.
