Ban on Using the Word “ORS” on Food Products
 The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed all food manufacturing companies to stop using the term “ORS” on labels and advertisements.
 Using “ORS” as part of a brand name or on packaging violates the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
 The permissions granted in July 2022 and February 2024 allowing the use of the term “ORS” have now been withdrawn, according to FSSAI.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)
 The FSSAI is an autonomous statutory body established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
 It functions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
 Headquarters: New Delhi.
 Its objectives include setting food standards, ensuring safe food practices, licensing food businesses, ensuring compliance through inspections, testing food quality, training and capacity building, and promoting public awareness.
