Pan-India SIR
- The Election Commission (EC) is preparing for a country-wide roll-out of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
- The first phase will cover more than 10 States and one Union Territory.
- The initial phase will include election-bound States: Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal.
- Assembly elections are due in 2026 in the key states listed for Phase One.
- States with scheduled local body polls and those likely to experience harsh weather conditions during the winter will be tackled in later phases.
- The SIR aims to ensure accuracy and completeness of electoral rolls across India before the next major round of elections.
