ASEAN-India Summit
- The Prime Minister is scheduled to participate and address the ASEAN-India Summit to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 26 to 28, via video conferencing.
- India has been a dialogue member of the 10-member organization, Indonesia, Malaysia, the
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia, since its inception in 1992. - Association of Southeast Asian Nations
- Year of establishment:
- 8 August 1967( Bangkok, Thailand)
- Member countries (10): Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei
- Development of India’s relationship:
- India became a “Sectoral Dialogue Partner” with ASEAN in 1992.
- Became a “Full Dialogue Partner” in 1996.
- The first ASEAN-India Summit was held in Cambodia in 2002.
- In 2012, the bilateral relationship was upgraded to a “Strategic Partnership”.
- 2022 – 30th Anniversary celebration:
- Celebrated as ASEAN–India Friendship Year.
- Emphasised the bilateral relationship under the theme “Shared Values, Common Destiny”.
