LVM-3 Rocket
- The LVM-3 rocket with the CMS-03 satellite for coastal surveillance is scheduled to be launched from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on November 2.
- ISRO has so far launched 48 satellites to improve the country’s communication facilities.
- In this regard, the service life of the GSAT-7 (Rukmani) satellite, which was launched in 2013, is about to end.
- In its place, ISRO has now designed the state-of-the-art CMS-03 (GSAT-7R) satellite at a cost of about Rs 1,600 crore.
- This satellite is scheduled to be launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on November 2 by the LVM-3 (GSLV Mark-3) rocket.
- CMS-03 satellite weighs 4,400 kg. It is the heaviest satellite ever launched into orbit.
- This satellite will be used for surveillance missions by the Indian Defense Ministry.
- It will help in monitoring the Indian coastal borders and improving communication services between warships and aircraft.
- This is the 5th launch of the LVM-3 rocket.
- Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft was previously successfully launched by this rocket.
