Tamil Nadu Day
- After India gained independence on 15 August 1947, the Madras Province became the Madras State.
- The boundaries of the state were reorganized linguistically as a result of the States Reorganization Act of 1956.
- The state of Tamil Nadu was formed on 1 November 1956 as the Madras State.
- On 18 July 1967, the state assembly passed a resolution moved by former Chief Minister C.N. Anna Durai to change the name of the then Madras Province to Tamil Nadu.
- Traditionally, 1 November is observed as the State Reorganization Day.
