Day Care Centres for Elderly People

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister launched day care centres for the elderly called Anbu Solai on 10.11.2025.
  • The initiative aims to promote the well-being of senior citizens, particularly those from working-class families.
  • The scheme was announced in the Tamil Nadu Budget 2025–26 and implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment.
  • The project has been allocated ₹10 crore for establishment and operations.
  • 25 centres have been opened across Tamil Nadu in the first phase.
  • The primary objective is to drive away the loneliness of the elderly in households of employed couples, keeping them active, physically and mentally, and ensuring they are happy and safe.

The distribution of the first 25 centres includes:

  • Three centres in the Greater Chennai Corporation.
  • Two centres each in ten Municipal Corporations (Tiruchi, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Thanjavur, Thoothukudi, Tiruppur, Dindigul, and Vellore).
  • One centre each in the industrial districts of Ranipet and Krishnagiri.
