Sandalwood-colored leopard

  • Background: A rare leopard, the “sandalwood-colored leopard,” was discovered for the second time in India in the Vijayanagara district of Karnataka, drawing national and global attention to the state’s genetically diverse wildlife.
  • The “sandalwood leopard” was first discovered in November 2021 in Ranakpur, Rajasthan.
