Sindhi Constitution Edition Released

  • Context: The Vice President of India released the Sindhi edition of the Constitution of India in New Delhi, coinciding with Sindhi Language Day.
  • This new edition has been produced in both Devanagari and Perso-Arabic scripts.
  • Notably, this release marks the first time since independence that the Sindhi edition of the Constitution has been published in the Devanagari script.
    • The literary tradition of the Sindhi language reflects a unique confluence where Vedanta philosophy and Sufi thought converge, while also upholding universal values ​​such as unity, love, and brotherhood.
    • India stands unique in ensuring that its Constitution is available in multiple languages. 
  • The Constitution has also been translated into Tamil, Gujarati, Bodo, Dogri, Santhali, and Nepali.
  • Through the 21st Constitutional Amendment Act of 1967, Sindhi was included as the 15th official language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
