Global Military Spending (SIPRI Report 2025)

    • Context: India ranks fifth on the list of countries with the highest military spending.
    • According to a report released by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), a Sweden-based organization:
    • In 2025, India spent 92.1 billion US dollars on its military requirements. This represents an increase of 8.9% compared to the previous year
    • India has significantly increased its defense expenditure to ensure military readiness, driven by factors such as ‘Operation Sindoor’ and prevailing tensions in border regions.
  • India’s share of global military spending stands at 3.2 percent.
  • By spending 92.1 billion US dollars in 2025, India has secured the fifth position on this list. 
  • In this ranking, the United States holds the first place, followed by China in second, Russia in third, and Germany in fourth. 
  • The United States spent 1,480 billion US dollars, while China spent 336 billion US dollars on their respective militaries.
  • Pakistan currently ranks 31st on the list of countries with the highest military spending.
