Jan Vishwas  Act

  • Context : The Central Government has directed the southern states to fast-track the implementation of reforms introduced under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, through the Jan Vishwas reforms.
  •  The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act mandates the decriminalization of offenses and simplifies regulatory compliance across 79 laws and 784 rules.
  • This reform aims to boost the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ by significantly reducing the regulatory and compliance burden on traders and business enterprises.
  •  Its primary goal is to support honest businesses. At the same time, it ensures that strict action continues to be taken against fraud, violations, and malpractice.
  • State governments have been directed to ensure the swift issuance of registrations and licenses without any delay or procedural hurdles once the necessary documents are submitted.
