Release of SDG Publications on the Occasion of 20th Statistics Day (29th June 2026)
- Context: The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released a series of publications on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to mark the 20th Statistics Day, highlighting India’s progress across social, economic and environmental indicators under the National Indicator Framework (NIF).
- On the occasion of the 20th Statistics Day, on 29th June 2026, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation released the following publications on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- Sustainable Development Goals – National Indicator Framework Progress Report, 2026
- Data Snapshot on Sustainable Development Goals – National Indicator Framework Progress Report, 2026;
- Sustainable Development Goals – National Indicator Framework, 2026 (along with metadata);
- Transforming Lives: India’s Achievements under the People Dimension of the SDGs.
National Indicator Framework (NIF) for SDGs

- The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI)developed the National Indicator Framework (NIF) to monitor India’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- The NIF was prepared in consultation with: Concerned Ministries and Departments, NITI Aayog, United Nations (UN) agencies, Other stakeholders
- The report is prepared using data provided by different Ministries and Departments.
- MoSPI releases the SDG Progress Report every year on 29 June.

- The National Indicator Framework (NIF) 2026 has 277 indicators covering all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

- The report shows that India has made good progress in achieving the SDGs.
- Major Highlights
- Social Protection: People covered under social protection schemes increased from 22% (2016) to 65.3% (2026).
- Conservation of Genetic Resources:

- Plant genetic resources increased from 4,32,564 (2014–15) to 4,91,864 (2025–26).
- Animal genetic resources increased from 1,40,364 to 3,61,794.
- Fish genetic resources increased from 47 to 105.
- This shows better conservation of plants, animals, and fish for agriculture and food security.
- Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR): MMR reduced from 122 (2015–17) to 87 (2022–24) per 1,00,000 live births.
- Sex Ratio at Birth: Improved from 896 girls per 1,000 boys (2015–17) to 918 girls per 1,000 boys (2022–24)
- Renewable Energy: Installed renewable energy capacity increased from 64.04 watts per person (2014–15) to 193.36 watts per person (2025–26).
- Unemployment Rate:The unemployment rate fell from 6.1% (2017–18) to 3.1% (2025).
