About the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)

  • UNESCAP is the largest intergovernmental organization in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • It was established in 1947.
  • Objective: To promote economic and social development by strengthening cooperation among countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • It comprises 53 member states and 9 associate members working together to achieve sustainable development.
  • UNESCAP is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations.
  • Key Function: To support regional and sub-regional cooperation and integration for economic and social progress.
