- It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2002.
- It aims to pay tribute to the men and women who serve in UN peacekeeping operations and to honour those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.
- The theme of this year is ‘Peace begins with me’.
- This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the UN.
