Kaval Karangal (Police Hands)
▪ According to Chennai Metropolitan Police, 7,712 destitute people have been rescued through this scheme in 3 years.
▪ Chennai Metropolitan Police, along with government and non-governmental volunteer organizations, launched ‘Kaval Karangal’ on April 21, 2021.
▪ ‘Kaval Karangal’ has performed the service of providing proper burial for 4,601 unclaimed destitute bodies.
▪ In recognition and appreciation of the services of ‘Kaval Karangal’, it was awarded the ‘SKOCH Award’ in 2023.
▪ Tamil Nadu Police Department has decided to expand this scheme throughout the state.
