World Social Protection Report (WSPR) 2024-26
It was released by the International Labour Organization.
As per the WSPR, India’s social protection coverage doubled from 24.4% in 2021 to 48.8% in 2024.
65% of India’s population (92 crore people) is covered under at least one social protection benefit (cash or in-kind), with 48.8% receiving cash benefits.
A comprehensive Data Pooling Exercise: Conducted by the Union Labour Ministry in collaboration with the ILO, analyzing 200 crore records across 34 major Central schemes (e.g., MGNREGA, EPF, ESI).
It does not account for: In-kind benefits provided to the citizens of the country (e.g., food security, housing benefits), State-administered social protection schemes.
