Agricultural Credit Societies to Operate as Public Service Centers in Tamil Nadu
▪ Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in Parliament that the 4,453 agricultural credit societies in Tamil Nadu will function as public service centers.
▪ Efforts are in full swing to computerize and integrate 67,930 agricultural credit societies nationwide.
▪ This initiative will provide benefits such as rapid loan disbursement, low service charges, and transparency in money handling.
▪ These agricultural credit societies will operate as public service centers, offering over 300
services including:
✓ Banking transactions
✓ Life insurance
✓ Aadhaar card application and modification
✓ Health-related services
✓ Electricity bill payment
▪ Nationwide, 40,214 agricultural credit societies, with 4,453 in Tamil Nadu, are being transformed into public service centers. For Tamil Nadu, the central government has allocated ₹28.2 crore in the current financial year for computerizing agricultural credit societies and the cooperative
registrar’s office.
