State of India’s Birds (SoIB) Report 2023
- SoIB is published by the State of India’s Birds Partnership. It is a group of 13 government and non-governmental organisations.
Key Highlights of the Report
- The report assessed the status of 942 bird species largely using data uploaded by birdwatchers to the online platform eBird.
- Of the 942 Indian bird species assessed for conservation priority, the report found 217 species stable and 204 declining in the past three decades.
- As many as 178 species were classified under “high conservation priority” and 14 species, including Indian roller, were recommended for the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List reassessment.
- 60% of bird species declined in India over a period of 30 years
