Global Hunger Index 2023

- The Global Hunger Index 2023 was released by Irish NGO Concern Worldwide and German NGO Welt Hunger Hilfe.
- India ranks 111 out of a total of 125 countries.
- India’s ranking is based on a Global Hunger Index score of 28.7 on a 100 point scale where 0 is the best score (no hunger) and 100 is the worst.
- This categorises India’s severity of hunger as “serious”
- Key scores:
- Child wasting – 18.7 per cent
- Rate of undernourishment – 16.6 per cent
- Under-five mortality – 3.1 per cent.
- Prevalence of anaemia in women aged between 15 and 24 years – 58.1 per cent.
